Right On Target with Lance Hunter Voorhees
Would Jesus Register as Republican?
If Jesus were a US citizen, which of the two major political parties would he most likely identify with? Would he be inclined to set sail with the Democrats or with the Republicans?
Here is a hint: in John’s Gospel Jesus said, “Cast your net to the right side of the boat.”
Big Media has long associated organized Christianity with the right wing, which for them is synonymous with the Republican Party.
Have you ever heard the mainstream media criticize a movement called the Christian Left?
Clearly, it is the Christian Right that is constantly vilified by the press for taking a stand against issues like gay marriage, abortion and human secularism.
It is the Right that takes principled stands for issues such as the right to pray in school and the freedom to display the Ten Commandments, which have been carved into the architecture of our Supreme Court for almost two centuries.
I believe if Jesus were found in a voting booth today, He would usually be pulling the lever for Republicans.
Just as Jesus was a threat to his political contemporaries, evangelical politicians of today are also seen as a menace. As a result, evangelicals are attacked by the media with a take-no-prisoners attitude — not even families are safe.
Take Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin, for example. I would venture to say that more people know the names and approximate ages of Palin’s children than they do the children of Obama or Joe Biden, who have been in national politics far longer.
Why? … Because Palin’s solid Christian foundation threatens the media, where you will find far more Democrats than Republicans. It is this same media that has done everything they can to portray Palin’s political views and family as a dysfunctional package.
The Democratic run media often paint evangelicals as unenlightened, racist bigots who hide behind their religion while clinging to their guns — sound familiar?
The true test for determining which party Jesus would most likely get behind would be to compare Christ’s teachings to the political history of our two-party system.
For instance, consider legislation affecting schools and colleges, which are the future generation’s foundation. The Dems prefer prophylactics to prayer, abortion to abstinence, and public financing to personal responsibility.
When it comes to capitalism, the Dems substitute socialism; where there is deregulation they strive for regulation; when it comes to the right to bear arms, they attempt to disarm.
Now before anyone fires off an email telling me I’m a pompous, right wing politico who can’t possibly know the mind of Jesus, I would challenge you to compare the political platforms of both parties and see which one often contradicts the philosophy of the New Testament.
If you can’t see the Democratic Party as anti-Christian, then you are either blind as a bat or you haven’t read the 2008 Democratic Party Platform.
The Democratic Platform is peppered with Big Brother bribery designed to buy the votes of political partisans, the lazy and the irresponsible.
Bribing homosexuals is a Democratic favorite. The Demos not only support gay marriage, but they go further by insisting that taxpayers foot the lifelong medical bills for those who get AIDS through promiscuous homosexual activity – pg. 14, par. 4.
Romans 1:27 speaks of men who “abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust toward one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty of their perversion.”
Clearly, the New Testament teaches that there are consequences to unnatural sexual acts, but the Democrats prefer that we collectively suffer the consequences. Sharing someone’s burden should be an act of grace and not a mandated act of government.
Healthy sized bribes are also offered to ensure “healthcare for every single American…similar to what Members of Congress enjoy” – pg. 13, par. 4. While this sounds good on the surface, a closer look reveals a couch potato healthcare plan for those who refuse to work — “covering all is not just a moral imperative, but is necessary” – pg. 10, par. 2.
2 Thessalonians 3:10 teaches, “if any will not work, neither should they eat,” let alone get free health insurance, food stamps, Medicare and a “World Class” pre-school through college education “that is a birthright for every child” - pg. 18, par. 4.
And why stop there? The Democrats want to include “loan forgiveness programs” pg. 24. par. 1. Here is just one more Democratic bribe to lure in college age voters and encourage irresponsibility.
Federally subsidized education is guilty of astronomically inflating the cost of education and circumventing the free market. If government would get out of the way, colleges and universities could only charge what the market would bear.
Loan “forgiveness” may sound Christian, but someone has to pay for those forgiven loans and that someone is you via taxation, under threat of fine or incarceration.
US taxpayers can get more time for violating the 23,000-page tax code than for beating their wives. Where are our priorities?
Another vote getting bribe, this one aimed at Hispanics, is the Democratic proposal to reward people for breaking the law by giving “adequate access to counsel” to illegal immigrants – pg. 45, par. 3.
Providing an army of attorneys to illegal immigrants will tie up our already overburdened courts and delay the incarceration of those that society needs protection from.
Another unsurprising Democratic bribe is intended for feminists who believe a woman must have the right to abortion — if mom can’t afford to abort her child then the taxpayers will pay for it – pg. 50, par. 4.
Why would anyone who identifies as Christian want to entrust our government to the Democratic Party “In whose hands is mischief, and whose right hand is full of bribes”? - Ps 26:10
I’m not saying that the Republican Party is perfect and doesn’t have its share of power hungry hypocrites, but the Republican Party faithful are just that — they are faithful to the constitutional vision of a limited federal government founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
If you are a Christian Democrat who promotes your political party, my guess is that you haven’t read your party’s platform and that it has probably been some time since you’ve read your New Testament from cover to cover.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.
